Georgia vs. Arizona State

Saturday, September 20, 2008 – Tempe, Arizona

Final: 27-10

3 Georgia remains the (#3) team in the nation after a convincing 27-10 victory vs. Arizona State. Coach Mark Richt said afterwards, “Considering the team we played, I’d have to say that was the most complete game for our team this year.”

4 The number of sacks (4) for the Georgia defense—and the number of yards (4) rushing for the Sun Devils offense. In other words, Georgia dominated on defense. Arizona State receiver Mike Jones said later, “If you can’t run the ball, no way you can win the game, even if you have like ten receivers out there.” Coach Richt said of his defense, “I was very proud. I have no idea how many times we sacked, but we pressured him (QB Rudy Carpenter) pretty good.”

11 Georgia’s winning streak is now at (11) games dating to last season. That is the second longest streak in the nation.

149 The number of yards (149) rushing for Knowshon Moreno vs. the Sun Devils. The Heisman hopeful scored two more touchdowns and he now leads the SEC with 455 yards rushing and nine TDs.

159 The number of yards (159) receiving for freshman A.J. Green. He made seven catches for 150 yards in the first half as Georgia grabbed a 21-3 lead. Green made one more catch good for nine yards in the second half, and after the game Matt Stafford complimented Green on his performance, saying, “He’s a good player. He’s got a lot of body control, and for his frame he’s a lot stronger in the air than you would think.”

919 The number of yards (919) passing for Matt Stafford after four games. That is the highest total in the SEC, and Stafford is also the highest rated starter in the league with a 152.6 QB rating. The Bulldogs playmaker has five TDs with no picks.

Game Notes: That winning streak is about to get tested in a serious way. Georgia begins a stretch of SEC games where they will face four ranked opponents in the next five games—three of which are in the top ten—and the one unranked team is Tennessee.
