Saturday, October 11, 2008 – Athens, Georgia
Final: 26-14
Final: 26-14
3 The number of teams (3) in the SEC East with one loss. Georgia, Vandy, and Florida are all looking to make it to Atlanta – and the next three weeks should sort things out. Georgia has Vandy at home, LSU on the road, and Florida in Jacksonville.
10 Georgia remains the (#10) team in the country. Florida and Oklahoma State moved ahead of the Bulldogs as Missouri and LSU fell out of the top ten. Georgia, however, needs to survive three ranked SEC opponents the next three weeks – and then worry about the polls.
20 The last time Tennessee began SEC play 0-3 was (20) years ago. The Volunteers, however, are not getting any sympathy from the Bulldogs, seeing as Tennessee beat Georgia the last two seasons and three out of the last four.
103 The number of yards (103) receiving for Mohamed Massaquoi. The senior receiver caught five passes and scored one touchdown – and he was very vocal about finding some sort of redemption for last year’s loss: “The way they beat us, there wasn’t any question of who showed up that day.” He added, “You want to bounce back and let them know you’re there to play.”
310 The number of yards (310) passing for Bulldogs QB Matthew Stafford vs. Tennessee. Stafford was 25 for 36 passing with one touchdown – good for a career best yardage total.
458 Georgia’s offense tallied (458) total yards on 81 plays. Georgia gained 273 yards in the first half, and did not punt on any first half possessions. Knowshon Moreno carried the ball 27 times for 101 yards, but Tennessee netted just one yard on the ground and 209 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs made 29 first downs, compared to just ten for Tennessee.
Game Notes: Georgia lost left tackle Vince Vance for the season due to a knee injury. This is just another in a long line of injuries that have frustrated Georgia’s line all year – four different players have been first-string left tackle since the preseason. There is a very real possibility that Georgia will start three freshmen on the line this week. “The good thing is they’re not true freshmen anymore,” according to Coach Richt. “They are six games into the season.”
Up Next: Georgia vs. Vanderbilt (October 18)
