Georgia vs. Vanderbilt

Saturday, October 18, 2008 – Athens, Georgia

Final: 24-14

7 Georgia is (#7) in the first BCS rankings of the season. The Bulldogs are #9 in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today polls, but this team must clear two huge SEC hurdles in the next two weeks if it truly has BCS aspirations: LSU and Florida.

132 The number of yards (132) receiving for A.J. Green vs. Vanderbilt. He caught seven passes, including one that went 17 yards for a touchdown and another that went for a game high 49 yards.

172 The number of yards (172) rushing for Knowshon Moreno vs. Vanderbilt. His highest output of the season so far gave Moreno ten career games surpassing the century mark and also made him the 13th player in school history to surpass 2,000 career yards rushing – and for his efforts he earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

194 The number of yards (194) passing for Matt Stafford vs. Vanderbilt. Georgia’s QB was 13 for 23 with two touchdowns – but he also got picked two more times. “It wasn’t pretty,” Stafford said of the 24-14 victory. “But we were able to grind it out and get things done.”

943 Knowshon Moreno leads the SEC in scoring at (9.43) points per game. He carried the ball 23 times and scored a touchdown vs. Vandy – giving him an SEC best 11 rushing touchdowns on the season.

Game Notes: This was a close game – way too close for Georgia fans. Vandy scored in the third quarter to make it 21-14, and the game was not decided until the Commodores turned the ball over on downs with 2:08 left in the fourth. “We beat a Top 25 team, a team that was on top of the Eastern Division,” Coach Richt said. “I’m very thankful for it.”
